Cedar Pass is a good sized campground at the main hub of the Badlands
National Park. The campsites are mostly in open areas with views
of the sharply colored badlands and the main park entrance. Cedar
Pass campground offers modern restrooms from April to September.
No open campfires are permitted in Cedar Pass campground. There
is a surreal atmosphere to this section of Badlands National Park.
When I first stumbled onto this campground, I felt like I was
pulling into some sort of outdoor theater. The campground has
an odd feel to it, matched by the even more surreal outdoor speaking
area with a hoodoo background (as seen on another page of the
Badlands section here). One of the main park access roads is not
far from the sites, so do not expect a quiet experience during
the day in peak season. Everything is wide open, but the views
are beautiful and the campground is very convenient in terms of
being close to the visitor center.
