Badlands National Park
wide open grassy campground in Badlands
Sage Creek Campground

Sage Creek is a a remote and quiet campground reached by a long gravel road into the western portion of Badlands National Park. The campground is wide open and flat. Water is not available at Sage Creek campground and the bathrooms are pit toilets. Sage Creek is also right on the wilderness boundary, convenient for those seeking a quiet area of Badlands National Park off the beaten path. No open campfires are allowed.

RV access is limited due to a difficult road, so travel at your own risk. Even smaller two wheel drive vehicles may have issues. Dry season should not be difficult for small to mid sized vehicles. Sage Creek is also an exceptional area of the park for wildlife. Prairie dogs chirp at the site perimeter, and bison roam the low lying pine dotted hills in the immediate area. Bison can and do enter the campground so be alert. Personally, I found Sage Creek and absolute joy. It borders the very unique Badlands wilderness area and is quite as can be. Those willing to pack their own water will be rewarded with one of the most serene car accessible campgrounds in the national park system.
