While the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) may be
known for it's amazing boating, it also happens to be one of the
best places in the eastern United States for hiking. Since the
BWCAW is just over one million acres in size, there are ample
opportunities for a true wilderness experience and a real sense
of adventure. No other area east of the Mississippi even comes
close to offering the same size of wilderness. Permits are required
to enter the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Self-registering
permits are available for day use, but if you plan on spending
the night in the wilderness you need to have an entry point permit.
You can make a reservation (always a good idea for the very popular
BWCAW) at 1-877-550-6777. There is a $12 nonrefundable reservation
fee and a $32 refundable reservation fee per group.
