With elevations ranging from 4,000 feet to 6,000 feet, Custer
State Park in South Dakota can experience harsh weather. We were
there in October 2009 and experienced a good sized snowstorm.
The next day brought clear blue skies and the slow melt of the
hick snow from the tall ponderosa pine trees.

Average monthly snowfall in Custer Stare Park is fifteen inches.
July and August are the warmest months of the year. Custer State
Park can be incredibly cold and also have intense, hot summers.
This is typical of the plain states. Custer State Park and the
Black Hills do have a mountain type of climate, so expect cooler
mornings, lower humidity and good sleeping weather in the evenings.
May and June are the months of thundershowers. Clothing should
be similar to what you would have on hand in the Rocky Mountains.
Temps:
December: 12 to 34 degrees
April: 24 to 52 degrees
July: 50 to 81degrees
October: 33 to 55 degrees
