Moose Creek Flat campground is a small, narrow campground sandwiched
between U.S. 191 and the Gallatin River. This layout offers great
river access, but also road noise from the busy highway. While
you can tent camp at Moose Flat, it always seemed more like an
RV campground to me due to the narrow design and the way RV's
will stack up side by side. Tenters will not want to be in-between
two large RV's only a few feet apart.
Those interested in fishing will have plenty of great access along
the Gallatin river. The campsite side of the river has few trees
allowing for easy backcasts. There is also a handicapped accessible
fishing platform a the campground which is fantastic.
Due to the limited number of sites, this campground fills up incredibly
fast on weekends and on weekdays during peak season. I would recommend
that tenters take a look at the other campgrounds in the Gallatin
Canyon stretch.
