Fish Creek is a large and popular campground set in old growth
forest on the SW corner of Lake McDonald. It's only a couple miles
from Apgar campground. Water access is good and some of the sites
back up to the lake itself. The forest is tall and thick, with
an interesting mix of trees. For views, you will need to head
to the popular beach that borders the campground (as seen in the
picture above).Fish Creek offers full modern bathrooms as well.
Since it's so close to Apgar, many people tend
to overlook Fish Creek. The area is very thickly wooded and
sloped, which can make driving a large rig a bit more difficult
than some of the other large campgrounds in Glacier. For those
who like to fish, try silver or copper spoons and cast them
out as far as you can, with an erratic retrieve. A lake trout
just may cooperate.
