Sprague Creek is one of the most sought after campgrounds in Glacier
National Park due to it's location on Lake McDonald. This campground
fills up fast so if you want a site, get there before ten AM on
peak summer days. Sprague campground is set in an old growth forest,
and borders the busy Going to the Sun Road. People enjoy stopping
in the campground for day use, making this a pretty challenging
spot to drive around in. It's often tightly packed with tents
and cars. It's location between Apgar and Avalanche mean that
people simply don't miss it. The fact that it borders Going to
the Sun Road and Lake McDonald makes it even more appealing. The
rocky beach can be tough to walk around on, but the view is world
class. The fishing isn't too bad either as long as you can get
a spoon or spinner to the drop off. There are hungry lake trout
in Lake McDonald, and they will hit a decent presentation as long
as they can see it. Work up and down the shore along the rock
shelves. It pays to let the lure sink a bit before retrieving.....
No towed units are allowed. Sprague Creek campground has modern
bathrooms.
