St. Mary campground is located on the east end of majestic
St. Mary lake, just seconds from the St. Mary entrance. Keep alert
for the entrance to the campground on the right side of the road
just past he visitor center and the bridge. The views from many
of the St. Mary campsites are outstanding, although they have
changed a bit from the fairly recent Red Eagle fire across the
lake.
Set in a tranquil area of aspen, pine and meadow,
St. Mary campground offers stunning views while being very close
to the small town of St. Mary and the main eastern entrance to
Glacier National Park. One thing you will notice is that the campground
is relatively open and fairly easy to get around in even with
a larger rig. In the fall, this is a good place to hear the bugling
of elk and to spot bears feeding on berries in the bushes. Bears
do and can enter the campground, so practicing Glacier bear precautions
is always a wise idea.
The campground has full modern bathrooms and is
close to some of the "nightlife" in the area which is
open in the summer months.
