Harry's Flat Campground

Harry's Flat is another of the famous Rock Creek canyon campgrounds in the Lolo National Forest about 17 mile south of Interstate 90 on Rock Creek road.
Please remember that Rock Creek road eventually turns into a very narrow and bumpy unpaved road. Most of the campgrounds along the unpaved section of Rock Creek road are tough to access via an RV. However, Harry's Flat is a very wide open campground with big loops and turnarounds that is actually rather RV friendly. The real trick is getting there. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but there are some who would take the risk.

Harry's Flat campground is a really pretty campground set in a huge old growth ponderosa pine forest. It sits between Dalles campground and Bitterroot Flat campground in the classic Rock Creek canyon section. Privacy on many of the sites is some of the best we've ever seen on federal public land. The sites are really huge, especially the ones bordering right up to Rock Creek. There are rows of young pine and bushes in-between some of the sites offering even more privacy. This is a great spot for people interested in doing some fishing. Nothing like waking up, unzipping your tent and being five feet from the river you plan to fish that day! Also of note is that Harry's Flat campground is near the southern boundary of the 28,135 acre Welcome Creek Wilderness. In fact, the wilderness boundary is the land on the other side of Rock Creek at the campground. This is a good spot for those seeking a little bit of adventure while having a great camp site. The only negative is there may be some slight road noise on Rock Creek road. It shouldn't be too bad though.
