If you are driving an RV and want to experience the Rock Creek
area without taking on the super narrow Rock Creek road when it
turns to gravel, Norton campground is for you. Norton is right
at the end of the paved section of Rock Creek Road making it extremely
easy access for RVers. It is the first campground of the famous
Rock Creek canyon stretch when coming from I-90 and heading south.
The layout of Norton is fairly similar to other
Rock Creek complex campgrounds, but this one sees a bit more traffic
and road noise because this area is still paved. The sites are
wide, but privacy is less than the other campgrounds on this stretch.
Things are really wide open here. You can tell the forest has
been thinned. You will also be able to see all the verbonone pouches
on the trees which are used to fend off unwanted insect infestations
at Norton campground. They are the little white pouches stuck
to the trees.
Some of the sites border the river, which is always excellent
for the fisherman or the family who wants to let their kids splash
around in the water.
