Pesticide spraying in campgrounds

This resource is for sufferers of multiple chemical sensitivity. Many users of national forest campgrounds go to these campgrounds specifically to get away from the use of chemicals in more developed areas of the country. What they may not know is their favorite campground could be sprayed with pesticides such as carbaryl or sevin. Note that we are only covering these two chemicals in this guide. You can read a bit about Carbaryl and possible effects at this link. This guide will continue to be updated throughout the year.

What we are doing is providing a yearly updated list of campgrounds which will be sprayed with carbaryl or sevin across various national parks and national forests. We want you to know which campground is being sprayed so you have the best possible information for your trip. We would like to coordinate this with national forests to even increase that level of information. The information is widely dispersed and difficult to dig up. Most of the spraying being done is for pine beetle control which means the focus is on the Rocky Mountains. This page is being put together as an easy one-stop resource for pesticide spraying in national forest and national park campgrounds. If you have any questions or would like to correct or add to the page, please email me: webmaster at parkcamper.com

Campers in mountain pine beetle areas need to be very aware of their surroundings. Dead trees can and will fall. Practice smart tent placement and beware of strong winds. The USFS is emphasizing removal of dead and dangerous trees this spring, summer and fall.
