Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park offers a rustic cabin
experience. There are 16 rustic cabins scattered throughout the
park available for rental via reservations. Three of these rustic
cabins are open all year long. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness
State Park also offers rustic yurts. All of the cabins and yurts
are "hike to", and within 1-4 miles of trailheads.
You can reserve your rustic cabin or yurt at
this link. If you are planning on visiting the park,
make sure you file your reservations well ahead of time. These
lodgings are very popular during the heavy tourist season. Please
take into consideration that these are rustic facilities with
no water. The structures themselves have information inside them
pointing to the nearest sources of water.
The yurts and cabins are $60 a night with an $8 reservation fee.
Seems a bit steep for no electricity, water or showers. A one
week stay in a cabin could pay for a very nice sleeping bag and
tent combo that would last you several years. That said, many
people prefer not having to set up camp, and this is a nice way
to do that while still enjoying a backcountry experience.
