There are several interesting side trips near Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. One of them is the Sylvania Wilderness Area, which is about 70 miles away. The Sylvania Wilderness is already covered on this site.

Another interesting side trip is Agate Falls, which is located 6.5 miles east of Bruce Crossing on M-28, and about 37 miles from the Porcupine Mountains.
Agate Falls is a very pretty falls. You will see the sign on the side of the highway.

History buffs will want to check out the Copper museum in Calumet on the Keweenaw Peninsula, about 100 miles from Porcupine Mountains State Park. You can contact them at 800.338.7982.

For those looking for more waterfalls than already offered in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, you will definitely want to check out the Black River Harbor and Recreation Area administered by the Ottawa National Forest just a couple miles west of the Porcupine Mountains eastern border.. This is a very scenic area including the lower Black River valley and Lake Superior. The general area is Bessemer north to Black Harbor. It includes unbroken forest, numerous waterfalls and a rugged atmosphere. Wildlife is similar to Porcupine Mountains park. In 1992, highway 513 was officially designated as the Black River Scenic Byway.
