Unlike many other rugged, interior national parks, Redwood has
pretty fantastic weather. Coastal temperatures range from 40 to
60 degrees all year. Redwood receives heavy precipitation, with
an average of between 25 and 122 inches annually. The main weather
influence in the park is the Pacific Ocean, and it keeps things
incredibly stable.
If you plan to hike Redwood, you will want a quality rain jacket
with backup layers of fleece or a sweatshirt. It's a good idea
to have a nice pair of weatherproof pants as well. Extra pairs
of socks are always welcome, and gaiters would be of help too.
Because of the mild temperatures, Redwood is not a place you will
often freeze, and you don't have to worry about searing temperature
causing dehydration either. Water is abundant in the park, although
all sources should be filtered.
Those visiting the park in the summer will notice the tremendous
fog. This is an important source of moisture for the redwood forest.
