Voyageurs National Park

Like the Boundary Waters and Sylvania Wilderness area, Voyageurs National Park offers the photographer a very watery experience. Much of the park is water based, and even at higher levels than the two other parks mentioned above.

The main land feature of the park is the Kabetogama Peninsula, which serves as a central location that is surrounded by water. The Kabetogama is a 75,000 acre wilderness of low hills and wetland type areas. Aspen and pine dominate the forest.

There are almost no roads in Voyageurs National Park. You pretty much need a boat to experience what the park has to offer. The lakes are large and can be dangerous in unfavorable weather. Of course, this also creates for more interesting photographic experiences.

For those that don't want to haul lenses around, I recommend the Canon Powershot SX10IS as an good all around portable camera. The Canon 50D is a good DSLR, especially matched with the Canon 17-55 IS and the Canon EF 70-300mm IS Nikon offers the Nikon D300 , an excellent camera when paired with the Nikon 70-300 VR and the Nikon 16-85mm
