For me, it all depends on what kind of camping I do. For example, one who uses an RV would have a fairly different set of priorities. Since I mostly tent camp, here's my list:

1. Water - we can go a long time without food, but not without water
2. Food
3. Shelter (a good quality tent able to withstand current weather conditions)
4. Quality sleeping bag (very important for cold weather climates)
5. First aid kit
6. Ability to contact help
7. Matchs or lighter (ability to start fires to keep warm, cook food)
8. Flashlight or headlamp
9. knife (protection, cooking, hunting if lost for weeks)
10. Calm demeanor. Panicking could get you killed pretty quick in remote areas.

I would think the lists would be different for different families (and yes, tent or rv differences).

For my family or list is:

1) Firewood
2) matches and lighter
3) tent
4) water containers (as there is fresh water where we camp)
5) blankets, sleeping bags, pillows--all bedding stuff--I'm not cheap on this--like to be comfortable. Smiley
6) Food
7) bug spray
Cool cooking supplies
9)flashlights/lanterns
10) toys, activities, games for kids

That's my list--but if you ask my boyfriend--I bring everything but the kitchen sink. Smiley

Just want to mention. I like your number ten. It sure is a mus when camping. Most would be useless if you don't have that.

How about water purification tablets, image you're out of drinking water and there is no rain... these would come in handy if you find some river near by, although cooking the water to the boiling point is maybe safer than tablets.

Oh well... Seems like everything's been mentioned now... Just don't forget about the radio or cellphone. It may be a real bum to bring any gadgets in camping but its a must for emergency times so better keep that in mind too. Smiley
