I agree. This is a beautiful site, but a bit close to the highway for tenters.

Stacey -
Much of northern Yellowstone actually borders the Gallatin National Forest. You can find out a ton of info on our Gallatin National Forest page: http://www.parkcamper.com/Gallatin-National-Forest/gallatin-national-forest.htm I definitely recommend visiting this area if you want less people and to camp "in" the mountains. Just be aware that much of it is grizzly country and there have been incidents recently. Use good bear country methods (keep all food, wrappers, scents out of your tent and sleeping clothing). |

Just curious. We'd like to find camping near Yellowstone, but not in it. Too crazy.

Liked this one...very pretty...sites were small though. Far away from other Yellowstone attractions with long drive across Lamar Valley. Pebble Creek Campground (if you can get a site) is far, far away from the craziness of most of Yellowstone. Our group preferred this and we were glad to drive back to a quiet area after touring the big falls and Old faithful. We camped at the walk-in tent section next to a little stream in a dead-end canyon.

Did not care for this one all that much. As Chanfamily said, close to the road and the entrance was always loud with idling trucks and motorcycles. The scenerey was great, but not the traffic. We much preferred Norris which is just up the road. You could literally count the cars as they were backed up onto the main road from the entrance station. It might be better just to make Madison a tent campground without the annoying registration before picking a site.

We got a free campground pack from PCamper and picked this campground after viewing the ones available. As a family of four, we loved it. A little remote for my daughter (12 yo), but she settled in after the first night. The campgrounds seems narrow, but its nice and quiet and its close to the Galaltin River so my hubby could fish. The sites were huge. Beautiful area, too.

We'll be hitting this one up in September for the brown trout on the Madison.

FYI this is the campground where a tenter was killed about thirty years back.

Tough to get to! Make sure you come prepared, this isn't a tourist drive. Kintla Lake was beautiful.

Norris is nice, but was closed this summer for a bit thanks to a curious bear.
