BIG campground. right in the middle of major intersection for Yellowstone. My family and I went here in 2007 and enjoyed it quite a bit. The campground is quiet way in the back for tenters. We were close to everything, even a few stores and a main Yellowstone ranger station. Canyon is a good spot for the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Hayden Valley and Yellowstone Lake. We headed south on that road towards the Lake the most.
We give Canyon a thumbs up, but don't expect it to be empty. The scenery around this area is amazing.

We liked Canyon a lot despite the fact it was so crowded. We were able to see everything quickly and with little fuss. There is some good food over in the visitor center court as well as some neat souveneirs. They kept the bathrooms clean, and we liked the forest in the campground. We would often come upon mule deer that would sort of hang around the campground permimeter. Lots to do around this campground, but also lots of people.

Canyon Campground is very popular because of the landscape and freshness of air.

Great campground for being centrally located, but as others have posted it's right next to a mall! Very, very busy area more like Yosemite than the Rockies when it comes to crowds. The pros of this are being so close to Yellowstone Falls, to the bears on Washburn and the geothermal sites of the Norris geyser basin. This is a cool place to camp during non-peak times because it puts you right in the middle of the park.
