This was our first campground in Yellowstone during our tour of the north Rockies with our van rental. We have two early teen children. The campground is very pretty, with the Madison river right there, and lots of fishermen casting into it. We saw elk just down the hill from the campground. The bathrooms were all newer with flushing water and drinking fountains. We had a tent so picked up a tent only spot back on the far loops. We could hear the cars passing by because we were near a main road. Other than that Madison campground was nice enough. There was a wiating line to get into the campground.

Did not care for this one all that much. As Chanfamily said, close to the road and the entrance was always loud with idling trucks and motorcycles. The scenerey was great, but not the traffic. We much preferred Norris which is just up the road. You could literally count the cars as they were backed up onto the main road from the entrance station. It might be better just to make Madison a tent campground without the annoying registration before picking a site.
